Rising Stars - Outstanding GCSE Results at Claremont

Claremont School students celebrate outstanding GCSE results, with rising value added and improvements across every measure.

20-08-2026

This year's cohort has delivered a very strong collective performance, with a significant rise in both the school's value added score and grade average, confirming that Claremont students are not simply achieving good grades, but consistently exceeding expectations relative to their starting points. Crucially, the improvement was not confined to a single headline figure: attainment, progress and the proportion of students achieving top grades all rose in step, reflecting a year of sustained hard work across every subject and every year group.

As ever, there are stories of individual success. For some it was achieving grade averages between 7.5 and 8.5. For others it was achieving 4s and 5s in areas where they thought they could never achieve. Success is relative and the school is proud of each and every student who has taken exams this summer. This summer has seen particular strength in Maths, English Language, Geography and PE, with Claremont’s traditional success in the Performing and Creative Arts once again replicated with outstanding grades.

Behind the numbers are hundreds of individual stories of ambition rewarded. This year's results have taken this cohort of students one step closer to a range of future careers: future doctors securing the grades that keep them on the path to medicine, engineers edging towards building the next generation of technology, dancers and artists growing in confidence and skill as they explore their creative boundaries. GCSEs are the first key academic landmark for children growing up and, whatever the final destination, Claremont's Y11 can leave this results day with real momentum as they head into the Sixth Form.

The School’s Principal, Ed Dickie commented: “What strikes me most about this year's results is not just the grades themselves, but the attitude that produced them. It has been a fabulous Y11. Our students have shown extraordinary ambition and resilience, and that spirit is exactly what will carry them through their next step into Sixth Form education. In a flash they will be choosing university, apprenticeship or career options; today, they are all one step closer to that moment and in a stronger place than they were yesterday. They now know more about who they are and what they can achieve.”

Claremont’s distinct learning approach emphasises the development of life skills and the opportunities that come outside the classroom as well as inside it. It will be these skills and experiences that turn great qualifications into successful lives and careers. Staff across the school have pointed to a genuine culture shift in recent times, with students taking greater ownership of their learning and setting their own ambitious targets. That drive, combined with high-quality teaching and a relentless focus on progress for every individual, has translated directly into results that speak for themselves.

As students celebrate today, the school is already looking ahead, with plans in place to build on this year's momentum and ensure the next cohort is given every opportunity to again take their own step closer to success.
