At Claremont, we are committed to creating an inclusive, supportive, and enriching learning environment where every pupil can thrive. We believe that each child is an individual and should be supported to “be the best they can be.”
Our SEND and Learning Support provision ensures that pupils receive tailored guidance, strategies, and resources to help them reach their full potential and grow into confident, independent learners.
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) cover a range of learning challenges, including:
Communication & Interaction
Cognition & Learning
Social, Emotional & Mental Health
Sensory & Physical Difficulties
Early identification of additional needs.
Quality First Teaching in every classroom – lessons are adapted to meet different needs, with high expectations for all pupils.
Personalised programmes of support that may include small group or 1:1 interventions, therapies, nurture groups, and specialist resources.
Pupil Profiles created in partnership with parents, pupils, and staff, reviewed at least three times a year.
Collaboration with parents, carers, and external professionals, including Educational Psychologists, Speech & Language Therapists, and other specialists.
Alignment with the SEND Code of Practice (2015) and ISI inspection standards.
Our dedicated Learning Support team has a wide range of SEND specialisms and qualifications. Together with teaching staff, they provide:
Multi-sensory learning strategies to build independence.
Individual Support Plans with clear targets, regularly reviewed
Targeted interventions in literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional skills.
Monitoring of progress, with assessments and referrals if further support is required.
Specialist Input from Educational Psychologists, Speech & Language Therapists, and other professionals.
THRIVE Programme
Pupils referred to THRIVE receive fortnightly sessions over a term to support emotional well-being and resilience. Additional terms are available at a reduced cost for small groups.
"I am so glad to know she is happy to discuss with you how she is feeling"
"She really cherishes her time in Thrive with you and I am so grateful that she gets to do this!"
"We are so grateful for everything you do!"
"We, and several other family members have noticed a big improvement in his confidence when speaking and think this owes a lot to your lessons"
"If you weren’t there in the mornings, I honestly don’t believe we’d be able to leave her at school"
"She does love the Thrive sessions"
At the Senior School, we offer in-house assessments for access arrangements by a qualified Specialist Assessor, with a small fee for the process. These assessments determine whether pupils need arrangements such as:
Extra time
Computer reader
Small group or 1:1 exam settings (additional invigilation fees apply for 1:1)
Where necessary, referrals to external specialists can also be arranged.
"I struggled a lot in school and it was hard for me, and at times I felt like I couldn’t do it. Lorraine helped me keep trying and didn’t let me give up. When I got my results, I felt proud of myself for the first time. Now I’m doing a course I love, and I’m happier than I’ve ever been. I’m so grateful for everything."
“Whilst my daughter was at Claremont Senior School, I found that the SEND support she received was excellent. The SEND teachers were always supportive, friendly and understanding of her difficulties and needs.
The SEND study area was also a bright and inviting space, making learning more relaxing.”
“The care and support that our child has been given both in advance of starting and since joining Claremont has been second to none. Our child is achieving more in her education than ever and this is down to the SEND department as well as their communication with the broader school community and with us as parents”.
Thanks to your support and help, you’ve completely transformed the way [our son] sees himself and how he approaches learning. The SEND department has done an outstanding job: you taught him an effective study method, gave him confidence, helped him believe in his potential… and most importantly, you made him enjoy studying.
