Celebrating multilingualism

In our multilingual school in East Sussex, students shape an environment where learning is not limited by language. They build  fluency in English through immersive EAL support and have additional language learning opportunities with classes in French, Spanish and Mandarin.

 

Students build on their multilingual skills through guided conversations, role play and other proven learning approaches that enhance communication and build an appreciation for languages of the world. 

Languages offered

Claremont students  take up Spanish, French and Mandarin for linguistic interest or academic growth along with being proficient in English with extensive EAL support.

Prep School

Our youngest learners are introduced to French and Spanish and start getting familiar with Mandarin. 

 

International students improve their English skills in EAL classes where the small class sizes and interactive lessons help fast-track fluency and communication. 

Senior School

Senior Section and Sixth Form students take up French, Spanish and Mandarin as GCSE and A Level subjects and are trained in speaking, listening, reading and writing fluency. Learners further demonstrate proficiency in chosen languages through research projects and verbal presentations.

Supporting international students

Explore our intensive English as an Additional Language (EAL) programmes designed to support international students in mastering English while adapting to an enhanced British education system and assimilating with their peers.

Pre-High School Programme

Ideal for students aged 10-14 whose level of English is A1/A2 and who wish to lay the necessary academic foundations for a successful Year 9 entry into the Senior school, followed by a two-year GCSE course. 

Entry requirements: 

  • Minimum 6 years of schooling with a good school record 
  • Language requirements: English near beginner 

At a glance: 

  • Intensive Academic English training for A2KEY or B1 Preliminary Cambridge accreditations 
  • Familiarisation with the English education system and British culture  
  • Small bespoke group learning in Science and Humanities to allow students to catch up academically whilst encouraging a focus on language development 
  • Integration through mainstream classes in Information Technology, Music, Art, Drama and Sports Science

1-Year GCSE Programme

A programme designed for international students who seek to achieve GCSE qualifications in a condensed time frame, while developing bilingual proficiency.

Students prepare English, Mathematics, Science, Foreign Language, Native Language and Economics core subjects, and choose electives between Business, Global Perspectives, Photography and Art. 

Learners are fully integrated into the school life, attending classes with peers, joining clubs, sports and leadership opportunities and taking part in international opportunities.

Three year A Level course

A programme designed for international students who need more time to master the English language and learn specialist terminology. They are based in our Sixth Form centre and are taught in mixed A level classes, supported by targeted EAL support.

Students choose from a number of specialist A Level and BTEC subjects, depending on their interest and prior academic studies.

Learners also prepare to obtain the IELTS qualification, a key instrument to access UK universities.

 

Immersion courses

International students can join our immersion courses making learning English an exciting learning adventure.

At a glance:

  • Two  or four week stays between January and June
  • Lessons following the British curriculum leading to GCSEs or A Levels
  • A wide range of electives, including creative arts, science, sport and football
  • English language programme delivered by an experienced team
  • Opportunities for cultural visits within the UK
