Claremont Summer School 2025
At our Claremont Senior School, students aged 13 to 16 take the lead in their learning journey and choose the areas they want to specialise in.
All the work done previously bears fruits and learners now truly find their voice, developing their independence and character.
Students progress to English, Maths and Science core subjects advanced lessons, while choosing GCSE electives in humanities, business, tech, performing arts and sports.
Students develop cognitive, digital fluency, communication and global skills through sports, performing arts, clubs, ISP's ILOS Programme and cultural exchanges.
Learners improve English fluency with specialist-led sessions, choose French, Spanish, German and Mandarin as electives and can take GCSEs in their native language.
Students benefit from individualised support in choosing GCSEs subjects through coaching in identifying strengths and ambitions and discovering new aspirations.
Learners grow in purpose-built facilities including science and ICT labs, creative studios, sports fields and performance spaces.
Students blaze a trail of success through our award-winning Arts programme and specialist sports pathways including our Football Academy and equestrian training.
Students lead through House Captain, Student Council, sports clubs, prefect-ship opportunities and international programmes like ISP Model United Nations.
Learners achieve amazing GCSEs results, with 89% of them obtaining a pass. Strong performances are obtained in Maths, Science and Frech, while artistic subjects saw an increased Value-Added score.

Every student takes the following mandatory subjects, which give them a minimum of five GCSE qualifications.
Becoming proficient in a world language
In our private secondary school in East Sussex, students develop the necessary skills needed to communicate in a clear and structured way. They learn to interpret the written word and to compare how writers express viewpoints and perspectives, or themes that are important to the way we think and live our lives.
At the end of the course, students are tested in their skills analysis of previously unseen fiction and non-fiction in the reading sessions and in creative writing and transactional writing (letters, speeches, articles and reviews).
Discovering worlds through words
English Literature is co-taught with English Language to all students in Years 9 -11.
The English Literature texts have been selected to be as varied and inclusive as possible, while covering all the required texts for GCSE. Students study a Shakespeare play, a 20th century play, a 19th century novel and an anthology of themed poetry from across time.
Learners feel inspired and motivated to challenge their vocabulary and writing skills, as well as develop a love of reading.
Developing an analytical mind
Students develop fluent knowledge, skills and understanding of mathematical methods and concepts.
They acquire, select and apply mathematical techniques to solve problems and be taught to reason, make deductions and inferences, and draw conclusions.
Exploring through experimentation

Combined ScienceThe course involves studying the main fields of science: Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The three disciplines are taught in separate dedicated lessons by subject specialists. Practical work is embedded in the course and students experience a wide range of experiments.
Science (Separate)Most science-skilled students decide to pursue studying separate sciences especially when they plan to take one or more in the Sixth Form. This is an accelerated course only high-performing students manage to follow.
At our secondary school in East Sussex, students take mandatory subjects under GCSE and have the option of choosing four additional subjects.
Understanding self through creative expression
Students learn how to work on a project, use different techniques, research independently and present a final outcome.
All students produce individual responses to all of their projects ranging from clay sculptures to mixed media paintings.

Both the theory and practical aspects of dance are studied and students develop a deeper understanding of what it means to be a dancer and the art and craft of choreography.
Dancers build up movement as a medium of expression and communication in the performance, creation and appreciation of dance.
A variety of choreographers and professional dances are studied throughout the course.
Bringing ideas to life
Students attend this a modern subject and have opportunity to develop capability in designing and making high quality, sustainable products that serve genuine purpose in society. They are provided with computer-aided design and manufacturing equipment (CAD and CAM).
Students understand uses, learn about materials, analyse products and discover how things work.
Performing for the worldStudents develop confidence, self-expression and an enquiring mind with this excellent course. It supports children to value their own ideas and opinions and leads them to support their own creative decisions.
Through practical and theoretical study, students learn how to discover the performance possibilities of texts and other stimuli, and devise dramatical materials of their own.
Unlocking international opportunities

Throughout GCSE studies, students benefit from constant feedback and support, so they feel guided to reach outstanding results. Their student progress is measured through:
Students start taking up leadership roles as House Captains or in the Claremont Senior League. They act as mentors to peers demonstrating academic efforts in class, showing initiative in clubs, sport matches or artistic performances and demonstrating strong intercultural and teamworking skills by interacting with peers during international experiences.
Learners continue to keep track of life skills improvements in their Skills Passport, reaching the Advanced level in Listening, Speaking, Problem Solving, Creativity, Staying Positive, Aiming High, Leadership and Teamwork.
All students learn at least one foreign language – either French or Spanish.
Foreign students can benefit from our English as an Additional Language provision, through dedicated sessions and small-classes interactions.
Students can opt to take exams in their mother tongue to validate their cultural and linguistic background, and to prepare for the challenges of sitting exams in the years ahead.
Year 8 students enjoy a ski trip together to Austria during Easter half-term. School teams often participate in sporting tournaments all around Europe, including a recent cricket tournament in France.
Every year, our students join peers from all over the world in multicultural and multilingual experiences called International Learning Opportunities for Students (ILOS). Whether it’s becoming a United Nations delegate or directing a film, ILOS programmes open the world to every learner.
In Year 12, students benefit from personal guidance in choosing their electives and opportunities to take GCSEs are offered. Gaining an IGCSE in Mathematics is recommended as it is a requirement to enter a UK university. Focus on Year 9
Students take up a wide curriculum that tackles English, Mathematics, Science, Information Technology History, Geography, Art, Music, Dance and Drama.
They discover three main areas of expertise:
1-Year GCSE Programme
A programme designed for international students who seek to achieve GCSE qualifications in a condensed time frame, while developing bilingual proficiency.
Students prepare English, Mathematics, Science, Foreign Language, Native Language and Economics core subjects, and choose electives between Business, Global Perspectives, Photography and Art.
Learners are fully integrated into the school life, attending classes with peers, joining clubs, sports and leadership opportunities and taking part in international opportunities.
London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art
Students take specialised classes to learn how to communicate dramatic text to an audience, acquire interpretative and technical skills and discover the performance process.
They grow in vocal and physical confidence, developing self-expression, and learn to work creatively and sympathetically with others.
The programme leads LAMDA exams, marked with Pass, Merit and Distinction, and students can participate in group and individual performances.
Rambert Grades
At our international school in East Sussex UK, students access the new Rambert Grades framework, which considers the dancer as a whole person regardless of Dance background. They learn about Coordination and Timing, Isolation, Extension and Balance.
Claremont has been one of the first centres to adopt the Rambert programme with our students achieving 100% distinctions and merits awarded in 2023.
