Claremont Alumni: Andy W

As part of our Claremont Alumni series, we spoke to recent Football Academy scholar and now Medicine undergrad, Andy.

Claremont's alumni community continues to grow and we love hearing about what our former students are up to now.

We recently caught up with Andy W, who is currently studying Medicine at a Top 30 UK university.

"My name’s Andy, and I graduated Claremont in 2023 and studied Biology, Chemistry, Maths, & French at A Levels during my time there, and was also a part of the Football Academy. I remember my time at Claremont fondly. I always felt that the smaller class sizes allowed for a more individualised and tailored approach towards each student, which was something I found extremely valuable."

Andy continues: "The Football Academy allowed me to continue chasing my dream while balancing my academics and I thought I was well supported in that aspect, as were the other footballers in the Academy. The facilities were also great, with gym sessions planned around our class schedules, which I thought further emphasised the school’s desire for us to be well balanced individuals, excelling not only in sport but in academics too.

Since leaving Claremont, I am now studying Medicine at university. I’ve also had the opportunity to be called up for my national football team at Under-20 level. It’s definitely where I would’ve envisioned myself back when I was in sixth form, as I’ve always aspired to do well academically but to also keep pursuing football at a high level, something I believe Claremont tries to do for every one of the players in the Academy.

If I could sum up Claremont in three words, I’d say 'Balanced, tailored, and supportive'."
