Shakespeare on the Lawn: The Tempest

Join us at this year's Shakespeare on the Lawn, and enjoy the Senior School student's rendition of William Shakespeare's "The Tempest". Promising a charming evening filled with drama and enjoyment on the school lawn, guests are encouraged to bring a picnic, relax in the evening sunshine and enjoy pre-show music before the action begins.

"The Tempest," a captivating Shakespearean play, unfolds on a mystical island where magic, betrayal, and forgiveness are intertwined. It begins with a storm conjured by the sorcerer Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, stranded on the island for years with his daughter, Miranda.
Key characters include Prospero, a powerful magician striving to reclaim his dukedom; Miranda, his innocent daughter who has known only island life; Ariel, a lively spirit bound to serve Prospero but longing for freedom; Caliban, the island's original inhabitant, resentful of Prospero's dominion; and Ferdinand, the prince of Naples, shipwrecked and enchanted by Miranda.

The plot explores themes of power, control, and reconciliation. Prospero's orchestration brings his usurping brother Antonio and the King of Naples to the island. With Ariel's aid, the shipwrecked characters encounter enchantments and revelations. Romance blossoms between Miranda and Ferdinand, as Prospero navigates towards forgiveness and renounces his magical powers, readying to return to Milan.

Every year in our Shakespeare on the Lawn series, our students' performance capture the whimsical and dramatic essence of the plays, breathing life into Shakespeare's timeless language with passion and creativity. Set against the serene backdrop of the school lawn, the event promises an immersive experience.
