Moving out of London

Nestled in the glorious East Sussex countryside, just 70 minutes from London, 10 minutes from the seaside and surrounded by medieval villages and castles, lush vineyards and miles of rolling green hills, Claremont’s unique location is particularly popular with families looking to move out of London in search of more green space, and to balance the educational needs of their children, with a flexible working life and daily commute.

Our unique,  Year 6-11 curriculum further enhances a dynamic  ‘All Through School’ student experience in which we are able to deliver a continuity of educational ethos as well as a happy, seamless transition to senior school when the time comes. This is why Claremont is particularly attractive to young London-based families seeking a better work-life balance, without compromising on the education aspirations they have for their children.

Competition for senior school places can be fierce in London, and for parents considering selective schooling for their child, the added pressure of  7 Plus and 11 Plus examinations often compounds what is already a stressful time for the family.  In our experience, this knowledge of what is to come, coupled with rising house prices and increased popularity of remote working, many young London-based families are reappraising city living, and researching alternative schooling options in the commuter belt, and even further afield.

At the Prep School, our complimentary Early drop-off , Late Stay service and after school clubs, coupled with our popular Breakfast Club gives working parents further flexibility and peace of mind if they are running late, or need to start their working day a little bit earlier.  School is about trying things, finding out and learning, both in and out of the classroom and why the termly release of the new Club list is always eagerly anticipated by children and parents alike.

Student outcomes at Year 11 and 13 are outstanding and with 125 acres of gorgeous playing fields and enchanted woodlands to explore, there is never a shortage of green space!

Claremont Prep was this year shortlisted for the Independent School of the Year 2021 Awards, ‘The Green Award for Environmental Achievement’ whilst the Senior School won ‘The Independent School of the Year award for the Performing Arts’. Click here for the full story…

In March 2019, Claremont was judged to be ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted in all categories for a third successive time, which serves as further evidence of our ongoing commitment to driving standards in teaching at learning and our focus on pupil outcomes.

Although non-selective, Claremont’s GCSE and A level results have been truly exceptional. Top performers in 2020 headed to a wide range of high profile universities to include Edinburgh, Loughborough, UCL, Winchester, Bristol and York, with the more creatively-driven, accepting places at UCA, Leeds, City University and other leading institutions specialising in the Arts.

At a time when grades have plateaued across the country, Claremont has continued to develop impressively, having first opened to students in 2011.  Headlines for 2021 include:

  • More than half of A Level results graded at A* or A
  • 79% of A Level results were graded A* – B.
  • 85% of BTEC results graded A/A* equivalent
  • Physics, Geography, Spanish and Psychology also saw 100% of students achieving a B grade or better’.
  • 89% of students are going to their first choice of university
  • Half of all GCSE results graded at 9-7, an increase of 9% from the previous year.

The changes to A Levels in the past few years has been a real challenge for educators and my team and I are proud that Claremont has shown what is possible with such a diverse group of young people. Our school culture is shaped by a determination to provide opportunities for all abilities and interests. Being able to prepare young people for Maths degrees at Harvard as effectively as for Fashion courses in London is something all our staff are deeply proud of.

Ed Dickie, Head of Senior School

Most pleasingly, 83% of our students are going to their university of choice this year. The outcomes for students at Claremont are outstanding and reflect a school that continues to grow and develop at a rapid pace.  To think that this group of students have never faced public examinations and have had to deal with the disruption of a global pandemic! We are very proud of each and every one of them.
