Welcome to Claremont Boarding

A local UK boarding school with an international outlook, for children aged 11 to 18 years.

Welcome to Claremont Boarding

Boarding at Claremont gives students the opportunity to join a close-knit international and British community within a caring and homely environment where everyone is valued and supported by an attentive and experienced staff team.

Whether students board to further develop their English skills, to become more independent, to access a British university or simply to enjoy the conviviality of our setting, their experience at Claremont is always enriching.

Our ultimate aim is to enable our boarders to achieve their full potential in all areas of life: academically, creatively and personally.

Boarding life

Whether students board to develop their English skills, to become more independent or to enjoy the warmth of boarding life, their stay is always memorable.

After school and weekends

Boarders enjoy a full schedule of social activities in the evenings on school days and on weekends. There are ample events and activities for both Arts and Sports enthusiasts.

During the week, students enjoy our extensive school clubs programme, designed to develop free-thinking and skills-based learning that inspires leadership, creativity, team spirit and academic excellence.

Boarders also keep up with school work during scheduled times after dinner, where House Parents attend and supervise students up to Year 10.

Trips and excursions

Boarders enjoy bowling, cinema trips, Laser-Quest, ice skating, ‘Go Ape’ tree climbing, gardening, zip-line activities and visits to London and local museums such as the Observatory Science Centre in Hertsmonceux.

Both boarding houses are close to mainline train stations with fast trains to London. Year 12 and 13 boarders can visit the city on their own, whilst local towns such as Battle and Hastings are enjoyed by younger students with prior parent agreement.

Friendly induction

Every student goes through a robust induction process which helps them settle in properly and allows parents to get familiar with us. This involves a Zoom interview with our director of boarding, Francoise Armstrong, and an in-depth Zoom call with the House Lead, closer to arrival.

When boarders arrive at Claremont, there is a further two day induction at their boarding house followed by a one day induction at school.

Pastoral care

Our staff stands ready to assist our boarders, anywhere, anytime:

  • The Director of Boarding, Francoise Armstrong, provides a crucial link between school and boarding life
  • Half of the boarding staff reside on the premises and are on call day and night
  • House Leads issue medication, look after sick students and accompany boarders to and from medical appointments when necessary. The House Leads work in close collaboration with the school nurse who visits each boarding house weekly
  • An experienced safeguarding team well placed to recognise even the smallest pastoral concerns.

Healthy food everyday

At Claremont Boarding School, students have breakfast and dinner together at their houses and have lunch together with healthy options of freshly prepared food in our boarding kitchen.

On weekends, boarders have all their meals at the boarding house, and our cooks prepare packed lunches for field trips and day outs. The menu operates on a 3-weekly cycle and is carefully designed to provide our students with a healthy, balanced diet keeping varied dietary requirements in mind.

Our boarders also have the option of preparing snacks for themselves in their stocked house kitchenettes.

Learning spaces

Our home-from-homes

Boarders are divided into two boarding houses, one for senior boys and one for girls and junior boys. Both are located off campus (approximately 15 minutes by minibus) as we believe it is beneficial for boarders to have some separation from school, just like day students.
