Claremont School is a co-educational day and boarding school for children aged 3 months to 18 years, set across two sites of extraordinary beauty in East Sussex. In our school, students are encouraged to develop their full potential and learn to become confident and caring individuals.
At Claremont we give pupils the best opportunities to shine by placing them at the centre of their own learning. Our broad, dynamic and flexible curricula play a key part in developing students’ individual strengths and motivations to learn.
During the Infant stage, we provide high-quality care and education for children between the ages of three months and five years. This is achieved in a happy and stimulating environment, within which young children can develop their own character and learn about the world around them. The Nursery school caters for children on a full-time and part-time basis and is open for fifty weeks a year. We broaden the Foundation stage curriculum further, through organised sessions with a specialist teacher for PE, Music, Yoga, French, Forest School and Gardening.
In Pre-Prep, an engaging curriculum stimulates curiosity and creativity. Small classes ensure that children have an individual programme of study in all areas of development, to suit their particular needs. Our aim is to develop skills, knowledge and understanding of the core subjects of Mathematics and English, providing a solid foundation for later years. We consider the National Curriculum for the Primary school guidelines when planning, but augment our offer with Music, Forest School, Art, Geography, Drama and Sport as timetabled lessons.
The aim is to teach a breadth of skills which will equip our pupils for their future lives. The curriculum is tailored to the individual needs of each student, and while the National Curriculum is a useful starting point, we adapt and enhance the programmes of study to ensure that every child is motivated, inspired and challenged. In addition to the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science, the syllabus includes STEM curriculum subjects, French, Spanish, History, Forest School to Year 6, Religious Studies, Geography, Computing, Art and Design, Music, Drama, PE and Sport.
In the Secondary School the programme is built around the five teaching faculties: Enterprise, Science & Technology, Humanities, Creative Arts and Communication. Furthermore, the co-curricular programmes are based around five different areas: Leadership & Qualification, Creative, Community, Active and Academic Support. Each student receives individual support and has the opportunity to tailor their learning programme to develop free-thinking and skills that inspire Leadership, Creativity, Team Spirit, Community-mindedness and academic excellence. We want to help them develop the skills needed to pass GCSE and A’Level exams, enter the world’s top universities, prepare them for a world that never stands still and for jobs that don’t yet exist.
Boarding provides a wonderful opportunity for students to combine their studies with making friends from all around the world and developing fundamental life skills. Our boarding experience provides traditional English settings, state-of-the-art facilities and a genuine home away-from-home feel. Additionally, we develop tailored academic and co-curricular timetables that play to students’ strengths, passions and individual needs.
We offer a stimulating learning environment where children and young adults can unleash their imaginations, express their creativity and pursue their talents. Programmes are imaginative and extensive across fields of study that include:
We also offer scholarships to pupils entering in Year 7, Year 9 and Sixth Form who demonstrate outstanding talent in one or more of the following areas:
The extraordinarily beautiful woodlands surrounding Claremont provide the perfect setting for children to develop crucial life skills, as they explore the natural world around them. Our exciting Forest School Programme is an integrated part of the school week for children from 2 to 11 years old.
At Claremont we believe our forest are truly magical, but seeing really is believing. Join us at our Open Mornings or Register for one of our Forest School Experiences!
