A Unique 'Through-School' Experience

At Claremont we give pupils the best opportunities to shine by placing them at the centre of their own learning.  Our ultimate aim is to ensure that young people have the opportunity to fulfil their ambitions, be themselves and be equipped to make good decisions in a complicated world. At Claremont, that journey starts in our Nursery and Prep School …

EARLY YEARS and Pre School (3 months to 4 Years)

We provide high-quality care and education for children between the ages of three months and five years. This is achieved in a happy and stimulating environment, where young children can play and learn together as they develop their own character and start to makes sense of the world around them. We broaden the Foundation stage curriculum through organised sessions with specialist teachers for PE, Music, Yoga, French, Forest School and Gardening. The Nursery school caters for children on a full-time and part-time basis and is open for fifty weeks a year. Our new Nursery and Pre-School building opens its doors for the first time in Spring 2021.

The Pre-Prep (Reception to Year 2)

In Pre-Prep, an engaging curriculum stimulates curiosity, creativity and experimentation. Small classes ensure that children have an individual programme of study in all areas of development, that suit their particular needs and motivations to learn. Our aim is to develop skills, knowledge and understanding of the core subjects of Mathematics and English, providing a solid foundation for the Prep School years, whilst adding Music, Forest School, Art, Geography, Drama and Sport as timetabled lessons.  Claremont Pre-Prep is a busy, purposeful and very happy stage of the ‘through school’ experience, filled with joy, friendship and new discoveries at every turn.

PREP SCHOOL (Years 3 - 8)

Claremont children move up to the Prep School, as kind, curious and creative individuals who are hungry for new learning experiences and to make a full contribution to Prep School life. We cultivate these natural characteristics from the outset whilst helping children to develop the skills and knowledge they will need to quickly progress. The curriculum is tailored to the individual needs of each student, with adapted and enhanced programmes of study that ensure every child is motivated, inspired and challenged. The syllabus includes a STEM curriculum, Forest School up to Year 6 and many individual subjects taught by specialist teachers such as French, Spanish and Drama.  Good manners and kindness are fundamental qualities in our children, who leave us with a strong sense of responsibility to themselves and others, many happy memories and a range of skills that will ensure they will flourish at the Senior school.

SENIOR SCHOOL AND SIXTH FORM (Year 9-13)

At the Senior School, the academic programme is built around the five teaching faculties: Enterprise, Science & Technology, Humanities, Creative Arts and Communication. We empower our students to play a leading role in designing their own learning experience, as we encourage the development of free-thinking and the skills that inspire Leadership, Creativity, Team Spirit, Community-mindedness and academic excellence.  As well as A levels, we offer students the opportunity to study Level 3 BTEC qualifications in some subjects as well as Level 3 opportunities in Sports Leaders Award, Arts Awards, and LAMDA qualifications to Gold Standard (university level). Extensive Co Curricular, enrichment and service programmes also recognise that, for many young people, the greatest learning experiences can come outside the classroom.

BOARDING Life

Boarding provides a wonderful opportunity for students to combine their studies with making friends from all around the world. Both of our boarding houses are located off campus, as we believe it is vital for the students to have a break from school. Close enough to get to school in under 15 minutes, but far away enough for it to feel like you’re really going “home” after a happy day “at work”.  Our Girls and Junior Boarding House is located in the heart of the historic village of Battle, just 5 minutes walk from the mainline station into London and our Boys Boarding House is 5 minutes drive from the Prep School and 3 miles away from the seaside.

EXTENSIVE CO-CURRICULAR AND ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME

We offer a stimulating learning environment where children and young adults can unleash their imaginations, express their creativity and pursue their talents. Programmes are imaginative and extensive across fields of study that include:

Creative and Performing Arts
Leadership
Journalism and Media
STEM and Design Technology
Individual and team sports
Entrepreneurism

We also offer scholarships to pupils entering in Year 7, Year 9 and Sixth Form who demonstrate outstanding talent in one or more of the following areas:

Sport
Equestrian
Creative and Performing Arts
Academic subject areas

Life after Claremont

As a proudly non-selective school,  the diverse nature of our student body is each year reflected in the broad range of destinations our students go on to.When students leave Claremont, they take with them a portfolio of evidence not only charting their academic attainment but also evidencing the skills they have developed, experiences they have had and all round capabilities as a student, employee and citizen.

Being able to prepare young people for Maths degrees at Harvard as effectively as for Fashion courses in London is something all our staff are deeply proud of” Ed Dickie – Head of Senior School
