Claremont in France    

Maison Claremont is our residential study centre in Saint Omer, northern France. It is wholly owned by Claremont and provides a superb base for our pupils to practise their French and experience the local culture.

The house itself is uniquely French with shuttered windows and a medium-sized courtyard. It is situated in Rue de l’Arbalète, a quaint side street a few minutes walk from the bustling heart of the town. Saint Omer is a typically French town, which is popular with visitors and yet has not been spoilt by tourism on a large scale. It is situated in Pas-de-Calais, the north-west tip of France, on the edge of the River Aa marshes.

The location is ideal in terms of accessibility as it is only 35 minutes' drive from the Euro-tunnel and is well served by motorways, main roads and main-line railway. Saint Omer is a market town which hosts a traditional market each week, the largest being held in the town square every Saturday morning. Selling a wide range of fresh local produce, flowers, fashion and accessories, the market really is a must for every visitor and offers the chance to enjoy the kaleidoscope of colour, noise and smell that is so unique to France!

Pupils have their first experience of Maison Claremont in Year 3 when they participate in a day trip to Saint Omer. This takes place during the Summer Term and is eagerly awaited by pupils throughout their first year in the Prep School. The children are accompanied by several experienced staff members and travel on school minibuses.
 

From Year 4 pupils upwards pupils start to stay overnight at the house. This allows them time to fully explore Saint Omer and to visit some of the local historical sites. Claremont has developed an excellent relationship with a school in the town and our pupils regularly spend time with their French contemporaries either whilst in Saint Omer, or when the local pupils travel to Claremont for a few days.

La Maison Claremont is a safe, comfortable town house in this typically French market town. It is ideally situated in a quiet, residential street within easy walking distance of all this delightful town has to offer. The house offers large families, school-groups or private parties the ideal location for short educational breaks or relaxing longer holidays.

Saint Omer boasts one of the finest golf courses in Northern France. The European Open Golf Championship was held there in 2005. Maison Claremont offers the perfect retreat for golfers making use of these excellent facilities.
