Nursery School News

The children in the Nursery School enjoy a busy schedule of exciting events and learning activities. Each week the children prepare a short diary of what they have been doing...

We hope you will read and enjoy this every day.  Sometimes our teacher will put important information on here but mostly it will be to let you know what we have been doing in the Badgers class.

Friday 9th July

It's here – our last day in Nursery. Our teachers say they have really enjoyed this year and although they are sad to see us go, they are looking forward to watching us through the years.

We have all learnt so much during our time in Nursery. Some of us can now read, some can recognise and write numbers. For some of us the important things we have learnt are to dress and undress ourselves or to share. When we first arrived in Nursery we found it difficult to do most of these but over the year, we have grown and are now looking forward to our new challenges in Reception. Our teachers said they will miss us and we will miss them but we have promised to pop in for a cuddle in September!  We have also become such wonderful friends with each other and have become so close always looking out for each other.

We will miss Nursery so much and have already seen some tears come from Mrs Croucher and Mrs Wilson!  We said a very sad good bye to Mrs Wilson today as she is going to work in Staplehurst as a Reception Teacher, we will really miss her and wish her good luck for the future.

We all hope everyone has a happy and safe summer break. Enjoy the holidays and Mrs Croucher looks forward to seeing everyone in September for lots of hard work! For those that are leaving, we wish you all the best in your new school. Lots of love from all the Early Years Staff.

Thursday 8th July

It was hot again today. This morning we had free flow outside and again we could choose where we went. This afternoon we played in the classroom as it was to hot outside.

Wednesday 7th July

We played outside the classroom door this morning it was fun to come and go as we please. This afternoon we all think Mrs Croucher has lost the plot! she got us to lay on the floor and write our names, what next!

Tuesday 6th July

There was no ballet today, so we had extra time in the classroom with our friends. We got out every single puzzle and found out that some of our games and puzzles are missing pieces. This means we have had to throw them away, which is a shame. Our teachers explained that if we don’t tidy up properly then bits do go missing so we are going to make a big effort not to lose any more.

Monday 5th July

Well, it’s here! Our last week in Nursery.  This morning we said our news and had circle time and we talked about we had done over the weekend. There seemed to be lots of cake baking going on!  This afternoon we carried on with painting, building using small blocks, water play and board games. A lovely start to the week.

Friday 2nd July

Phew, what another lovely sunny day in Badgers. Mrs Wilsons class went to the Headmasters lawn to let their butterflies go, that is the last of them now and they all flew away very happily.
Next week is our last week in Nursery and although it is very exciting, our teachers say they feel a little bit sad. We think they are very strange!

Thursday 1st July

We said good bye to our butterflies today, we took them to the Headmasters lawn and they all flew away. Keep a look out for them.

Wednesday 30th June

We have been learning about capacity. Using cups and beads or water, we showed full, empty, nearly full/empty and half full/empty (which is the same!).
In challenge time we all made sandwiches.

Tuesday 29th June

It was our teddy bears picnic today and we all went to the sports field and had lots of fun.

Monday 28th June

What a very hot day! We have had to make sure we have not been in too much sun and that we drink lots of water. In circle time we talked about what we had done over the weekend. Some of us went to the beach, others used paddling pools at home and some of us even saw some football on the television. We then drew pictures and wrote about it.

Friday 25th June

In our math's session we have been adding on. We thought this was really funny as we used teddy bears as our numbers, although some of us used our fingers. This afternoon

Thursday 24th June

How lovely to watch a sports event without the noise of the vuvuzelas! Yes, today was the Nursery School Sports Day and everyone took part. Badgers had a running race, an obstacle race and a relay race. Everyone cheered each other on and our teachers gave us stickers at the finishing line. They explained that in Nursery we don’t have winners or losers and that it doesn’t matter if you finish at the front or the back. We all liked seeing our Mummies and Daddies run .

Tuesday 22nd June

Weren't we just brilliant!! Mrs Wilson and Mrs Croucher were so proud of us and our mummies and daddies.

Monday 21st June

This morning we have been working very hard. We had a quick practice for our concert but Mrs Croucher couldn't remember the actions to our song, we had to teach her it was very funny.

Thursday 10th June

We went to the Headmasters lawn and let the butterflies go, but 2 didn't want to come out of their warm home so Mrs croucher took then back to school and we will try again tomorrow. We had a drama lesson today with Mrs Wilson, it was good fun.

Wednesday 9th June

This is our favorite day as we have 'challenge time' this afternoon. In cooking we made tasty cheesy bites. We had to squash the cheese, we got very messy!!

Tuesday 8th June

No new butterflies when we came to school, but by lunch time we had another 2. In ballet this afternoon we practiced pointing our toes.

Monday 7th June

It was nice to see all our friends after the holiday. We drew pictures of our news and then had free play. At lunch time Mrs Croucher noticed the caterpillars were starting to hatch we were all very excited. We have 1 butterfly who looks very wobbly!!

Friday 28th May

At last our caterpillars are making their cocoons, Mrs Croucher is going to take them home for the holiday. Enjoy the holiday see you all on the 7th June.

Please note Summer uniform to be worn after half term.

Thursday 27th May

We had lots of fun using the bebots. We had to programme it to find its way to a certain picture, using forward, backwards left and right. Mrs Wilson took us for a drama lesson in the new studio. This afternoon we joined with the Kingfishers and went to the Head masters lawn and blew bubbles, it was fun

Wednesday 26th May

Oh what a day  We had a whole school photograph this morning, we hope we don’t look too wet. When we got back to the classroom we had warm milk it was delicious

Tuesday 25th May

Our caterpillars are getting very big and Mrs Croucher said they will soon be making their cocoons. This afternoon as it was so lovely we made the most of the beautiful sunshine outside.

Monday 24th May

What a beautiful sunny day today – we all needed cream and sun hats on. We had a music lesson with Mrs Mc Naarb, she thought we were terrific! We also went to the sports field and looked for minibeasts.

Friday 21st May

PE first thing before it got to hot. We practiced for our sports day and then went for a listening walk to the woods.
It has been so nice to have the classroom door open this afternoon without freezing!

Don't forget whole school photo on Wednesday. Winter uniform to be worn. If it is hot then we will change the children into their summer uniform after the photo. Please make sure all uniform is clearly marked.

Mrs Croucher and Mrs Wilson said can we make sure we have a sun hat in school every day please. (Named)

Thursday 20th May

Mrs Wilson took us to the new drama studio for a drama lesson, we played some listening games. It was funny because every time we spoke it echoed! After break some of us went with a partner to measure different items and record if they were taller or shorter.

Wednesday 19th May

Mr Keeble came and read us 'Room on a Broom', then we had our snack outside as it was so warm. We all needed to wear hats at break time as it is very sunny – Mrs Croucher and Mrs Wilson reminded us that we should not take them off outside as our skin might get burnt, which would not be very nice. So please can we all have hats in school (named please).

Tuesday 18th May

We had our Phonics session. Some of us revised our words starting with the ‘b’ sound, and then we had to be really clever and see if we could write down the words we were asked to. Before ballet, we had a try at making our kites, they took quite a long time to make, we then went out side and flew them.

Monday 17th May

Today has been very busy! One of the first things we did was to sing Happy Birthday to one of our friends. Then we did some number work on the smart board and told our news to all our friends. At lunch time we named 2 of our caterpillars, Merlin and King Arthur, we will name the other 3 tomorrow.

Friday 14th May

We practiced our running in PE and Mrs Wilson said we are very good.
This afternoon was free play. Enjoy the weekend.

Thursday 13th May

We played a phonics memory game of ‘I went to the market and bought….’. It was really tricky trying to remember everything that had been there before Mrs Croucher took them all away! We also played outside on the bikes and used all the other toys and equipment that our teachers had got ready for us.

Wednesday 12th May

We were very excited today the postman brought 2 wonderful surprises, the first was our caterpillars we cant wait for them to hatch, the second was our poems we wrote, we all received a certificate and if our mummies and daddies sign a form our poems can be published. How good are we?!! Continuing on with our topic in 'challenge time' we made cheesy caterpillars. We put the ingredients in the bowls and all helped make the pastry. Everyone had their own ball of dough which we rolled out. Using a bottle top we cut circles of dough out, overlapped them and cooked them in the oven. They smelt delicious and we can’t wait to try them! The other groups one drew pictures of the tadpoles, another groups did dance and drama and another group played circle games, we all like 'challenge afternoon'!

Tuesday 11th May

It was yet another chilly start to the day so can we all make sure that we have a coat in school please. This morning we listened to a story about Leo the spider, then we went to the Headmasters lawn to look for spiders webs, but we couldn't see many. This afternoon we made a design for our kites which we are going to make next week.

Monday 10th May

We were all very excited as it was a friends birthday today. His mummy and daddy brought in a lovely chocolate cake which we all thought  was very yummy! We all sang 'Happy Birthday' and Mrs Croucher gave him a special birthday sticker. Our favorite things today have been the cake, the playground on the bikes and looking at books.

Friday 7th May

This morning we had some visitors to the school as it was Open Morning. We hope they all enjoyed our school as we think it is lovely here. We used a sound programme on the smart board and we had lots of fun finding the initial sounds of words. Please remember to bring in a coat as the weather is rather chilly again.

Thursday 6th May

We have been looking at the sounds in our names. Mrs Croucher and Mrs Wilson wrote all the sounds out on big pieces of paper and if we saw a sound that is in our name, we wrote our name under it.

Wednesday 5th May

Friday 30th April

In PE, we had a great time practicing our running, which will be very useful at Sports Day! It is so much nicer being outside for PE instead of in the hall. This afternoon we learnt some words for a song that we are going to sing to our mummies and daddies at our Leavers concert in June.

Thursday 29th April

We added objects together and then wrote the total which was quite tricky but we are very clever! The Badgers 2 were with Mrs Wilson and we were also doing number work. We traced over numbers and told Mrs Wilson if we knew the number. We also practiced our names by tracing over them.

Wednesday 28th April

This is one of our favorite day's as it's challenge afternoon. This week Mrs Croucher and Mrs Bradley made sausage rolls, Mrs Wilson taught us a dance about the sea, Merlyn made bumble bees and spiders with us and Ashleigh played some circle games in the playground.

Tuesday 27th April

A very busy morning, we used the interactive board to find out about spiders, they have 8 legs and  can grow a new leg if they lose one. After lunch, we had lots of fun with numbers. We ordered them and practiced number formation. We also used a number grid to find missing tiles.

Friday 23rd April

As it was St Georges day today we had to look around the nursery school for anything red or white, it was difficult finding something red, although we did see some red chalk and flowers.

Thursday 22nd April

It has been so nice to have the classroom door open all day without freezing! We have been in and out since 8.00 this morning. Badgers 2 went on their nature walk and came back very out of breath from walking up the hill!!

Wednesday 21st April

Mr Keeble came and read us a story about a bear, he said how nicely we all sit and that we have all grown over the holiday. Mrs Croucher took the Badgers 1 group outside for some math's work. We rolled dice and added the spots on both of them and then searched the playground for the correct number. Badgers 2 worked with Mrs Wilson counting cubes and building towers. This afternoon is challenge time which we all enjoy.

Tuesday 20th April

We spent a lot of time outside playing in the sand and with the cars. Badgers 1 went on a nature walk, we looked at the buds on the new trees and flowers and counted the petals on some of the flowers. Badgers 2 will go on their nature walk on Thursday.

Tuesday 23rd March

Some of us made Easter cards, and some of us wanted to improve our knowledge of shapes.

Thursday 18th March

We had to do a math's activity today and try and get a Billy goat, a troll and a cabbage across the river. We really had to think what we had to do. Then we drew pictures about it.

Wednesday 17th March

It was such a lovely day that we were allowed on the grass and some of us practiced our 'head over heels' and cartwheels, we were very careful not to roll into any of our friends. This morning we told the story of the 3 Billy Goats Gruff and we had to draw round our hands, then in each finger draw something from the picture.

Tuesday 16th March

We have been learning about direction. We know which is forwards and backwards but some of us got our left and right mixed up. We used the robots and directed them around the shapes on the carpet. We had outdoor play for most of the day, we were allowed to come in or go out, it was lovely.

Monday 15th March

We had music this morning in main school with Mrs Proudlove, we all learnt a song about a lamb. Continuing on the spring theme we thought it was such a lovely day that we would go for a spring walk. We saw some beautiful flowers and some of us knew their names.

As it’s Mother’s Day on Sunday, our teachers thought we could make Mummy a cake! We had lots of fun mixing the dough and then putting it into baking cases. We didn’t cook them this morning as the kitchen was being used. However, Julie cooked them at lunch time so we can decorate them before our concert this afternoon.
Weren't we just FANTASTIC!, Mrs Croucher and Mrs Wilson are so proud of us, we sang, danced and learnt a poem and gave a wonderful performance to say 'Thank you' to our mummies,  some of our mummies cried! we hope that was because they liked what we did. Well done every one.
Have a really nice day on Sunday.

Thursday 11th March

We carried on with our special cards. They are for our Mummies but we can’t tell you anything more about them as they are a surprise! We also looked at two 3D shapes – a cube and a sphere. We learnt that a cube has six faces and each face is the same, with four equal sides. The sphere has no faces and no sides.

Wednesday 10th March

We have started drawing and painting pictures of our Mummies. We are using very big pieces of paper and we have found it quite difficult to draw at this scale. This afternoon we will continue with the paintings as well as joining Kingfishers for Challenge time.

In Badgers we have been very busy. There were cards and other special craft works to finish off. We also had our ballet lesson this afternoon and before lunch we all worked on the smart board using phonic and number programmes with Mrs Croucher. This afternoon, we will continue with writing about our Mummies.

Monday 8th March

This morning, we have been talking about Mummies. We listened to a story ‘I’ll always love you’ which was how a Mummy bear loved her baby bear, even though he had broken something special. Mrs Croucher and Mrs Wilson then sat with us whilst we painted a picture of our Mummies and wrote about the nice things that they do for us. There were also special cards to finish off and something else that is a surprise!

A very big thank you for all your support this week, we have raised a lot of money in the Nursery School for Children in Need. The amount so far is well over £250 a final total will be announced later next week.

Thursday 19th November

What a fantastic, brilliant time we had today in the Nursery School. We had a visit from Pudsey Bear and a camera man called Colin from the BBC, who came to visit us to see what we had been doing for Children in Need. Two children from the Badgers class and Mr Beaumont presented a cheque to Pudsey Bear and then he came to visit the Nursery School to see all the other children. He was so funny and big he could hardly get in the door! We were all very sad when Colin told Pudsey it was time to go home.

Thank you to the BBC, Mrs Wilson for organising this for us and Mr Beaumont for letting Pudsey Bear come to Claremont.

Wednesday 18th November

We practiced for our Nativity play this morning and this afternoon was challenge time.
We have the BBC coming to school on Thursday and we are very excited.

Tuesday 17th November

In PE this morning we couldn't get into the sports box to get out the balls and bats, so we played some games we all like 'it' best of all. This afternoon we have been learning about one minute. We used beads and a sand timer to see how many beads we could thread in that time. We also used unifix blocks to see how many we could put together in one minute, it was fun!

Monday 16th November

We told our news this morning and then drew pictures of what we had done at the weekend.
After lunch we will have a practice for the Nativity, as it’s not long to go and so much to learn!

Children in Need activities all week. Please help us to raise a lot of money for this worth while cause.
Thank you.

Friday 13th November

Oh my -what a busy morning! It was one of our friends birthdays and we sang Happy Birthday to him and he showed us the delicious cake he had brought in for us to share.  On Friday's we have plan, do, review. Some of us chose to paint and it was fun using sponges and fingers as well as brushes! Others choose the smart board which is very popular and we often have to wait our turn. Whilst we wait we can choose another activity to do, such as playing with the puppet theatre, building bricks and puzzles.

Thursday 12th November

Some of us looked at big and small numbers – we decided that we couldn’t fit one hundred children in the class!  We also ordered numbers to twenty and tried to think of a small number and a big number.

Next week is Children in Need week, please take a look at the notice boards for all our events.

What a lovely start to the day. Although it was cold, the sun was shining so we played outside before registration.

Some of us looked at the letter 'm' on our smart board and matched activities to the correct letter, others made fireworks pictures.
In the afternoon we dipped chocolate fingers into hundreds and thousands to make sparklers.

Wednesday 4th November

We learnt another new sound today 'm' and we had to think of things beginning with 'm'. This afternoon was challenge time which we all love.

Tuesday 3rd November

What a dreadful start to the day, We thought we were going to get very wet when we went to PE in the sports hall. This afternoon we made fire work pictures we had to spread the paint with a tissue. They looked good and Mrs  Ansar-Carver has asked if we would mind if she put them on display at the cabaret evening.

This afternoon we made story books on the computer with a new cd that Mrs Croucher brought for us, we were shown how to use it and then we had to draw a picture using the mouse and then write a story. Mrs Crouchers drawings weren't that good, we think she needs more practice! We were shown how to print them out and we all have a copy to take home.
